Payroll Specialist Job Announcement

Position Summary:

We seek a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist to accurately and efficiently manage and process payroll for our team accurately and efficiently. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with QuickBooks and Gusto and a solid understanding of payroll compliance, benefits administration, and tax filings. Certification in QuickBooks Payroll is required; FPC certification is a strong plus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process end-to-end payroll on a regular schedule using QuickBooks and Gusto

  • Ensure accurate calculations of wages, taxes, deductions, and benefits contributions

  • Manage benefit-related payroll tasks, including HSA and 401(k) contributions

  • Prepare and file federal and state payroll tax reports, including NC SUI and IRS Form 941

  • Maintain and update employee payroll records, pay rates, and tax statuses

  • Respond to employee inquiries related to pay, deductions, and benefits

  • Collaborate with HR and Finance to ensure proper onboarding and offboarding procedures

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and company policies

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of payroll processing experience

  • QuickBooks Payroll Certification required

  • Familiarity with Gusto payroll platform is strongly preferred

  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) is a plus

  • Working knowledge of benefits processing (HSA, 401K)

  • Experience with payroll tax filing (including NC SUI and Form 941)

  • High attention to detail, confidentiality, and organizational skills

  • Strong communication and time management skills

 

 

This part-time position (20-25 hours/week) is available at $20.10/hour, with pay negotiable based on experience. Our office is located in the Emma community of West Asheville; this is not a remote position.
